Regretfully, I was unable to give Samson a shot at number three. KL Rahul

While important positions are occupied by team veterans, India captain KL Rahul acknowledged that a “phenomenal” Sanju Samson was having trouble breaking into the lineup. Nevertheless, he expressed satisfaction that the gifted cricketer seized his opportunity in the series against the Proteas.

Samson, who was moved up to No. 3 in the rankings, hit his first-ever ODI century on Thursday as India defeated the Proteas by 78 runs to win the series 2-1.

I’m happy for Sanju because, throughout the years, he has excelled in the IPL. Sadly, we haven’t been able to offer him the opportunity at No. 3, since those crucial positions are undoubtedly occupied by ODI mainstays.

“Happy he could seize his opportunities here,” Rahul said after the significant victory.

With measured scores of 108 (114 balls) and 52 (77 balls) from Tilak Varma, Samson led India to a challenging 296 for eight. Tony de Zorzi’s fifty runs (81 balls) put South Africa in the lead against the visitors, but they were finally bowled out for 218 in 45.5 overs.

Because South Africa set a fairly modest goal for the first ODI, Samson was not given the chance. However, in the second match, the wicketkeeper-batter scored 12 and batted at No. 5. But because Virat Kohli isn’t traveling with the ODI team, he was moved up to No. 3 for the final.

Rahul said that the team’s attention would now be on the two-Test series, which will start in Centurion on December 26.

Rahul will be the starting keeper of choice, while Kohli and regular captain Rohit Sharma will be rejoining the team.

“I’ll celebrate with the boys and return in a day or two to concentrating on the Test series.” I’ve been loving being with the lads ever since I traveled to South Africa after a dismal World Cup final,” he said.

“Match of the day” Samson expressed his happiness at having achieved his first ODI century in 16 matches, adding that batting at number three gave him an additional 3–4 overs to work with.

“I’m proud of this century, especially in light of the outcome. have been exerting a lot of effort. You have more time to comprehend the wicket and the bowler’s attitude with this format. You get those 10–20 more deliveries when you bat at the top of the order, according to Samson.

The youngsters on the team, he said, had really improved and made the seniors proud.

“Tilak Verma has stepped up, and the nation is extremely proud of him; much more is anticipated of him. The kids are stepping up and carrying out the duties that the elders have established for Indian cricket. Even though they have to travel and play every two to three days, they are doing a good job.”

Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm bowler who added amazing numbers of 4 for 30 to his five-for in the first ODI, said that playing in the IPL has improved him as a player.

“The strategy was straightforward: bowl wicket-to-wicket, get leg before wicket, and bowl. The “Player of the Series” acknowledged his ten wicket haul, saying, “I had to appeal a lot because sometimes when there’s nothing happening on the wicket, you need some support from the umpires.”

“For us young people, the IPL has been a great platform; there isn’t much of a difference between IPL and international cricket. It helps that you comprehend the attitude of international cricket players. We all appreciate the opportunities we have. We want to succeed and give it our best in the future as well,” he said.
