“There’s A Different Feeling…”: Virat Kohli Discusses “Job Satisfaction” in Tests in His First Interview Following World Cup Final Loss

In a two-match Test series between India and South Africa, all eyes will be on Virat Kohli. After missing almost a month of action, Kohli will play again after India’s November 19 World Cup final defeat to Australia. Though they haven’t won a Test series in the Rainbow Nation, India almost did it on their most recent trip, which was led by Virat Kohli. India defeated the Proteas 1-2 in the series, despite winning the first Test. Kohli was out for the second Test because of a back ailment. With the pain from India’s World Cup final defeat still fresh in their minds, Kohli and Team India, captained by Rohit Sharma, will try to make history by winning the Test series.

Prior to the start of the series, Kohli spoke about his experience playing Test cricket thus far and how it provides him a great deal of “job satisfaction”.

“In my opinion, test cricket is the cornerstone of the sport. It’s the past. It’s customary. It’s inherited. everything’s all of everything. After four to five days, you emerge on the other side, and the emotion is unlike anything you’ve ever encountered. The sense of accomplishment that comes from playing a strong innings and leading your team to victory in a Test match is unique for both individuals and teams. Since I’m a purist, I think that playing Test cricket in whites is essential. In a Star Sports-uploaded video, Kohli said, “Really honored to play more than 100 Tests for the nation and pursue my dream of becoming a Test cricketer.”

The hardest and most difficult kind of cricket is test cricket, but it’s also the greatest!

This interview was Kohli’s first since the World Cup final defeat.

Only a few days before the first Test match against South Africa begins, it has been claimed that Kohli has gone home owing to a family issue.

However, sources close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have verified that the legendary batsman would return in time for the first Test against the Proteas in Centurion, which kicks off on December 26.

Along with captain Rohit Sharma, bowler Jasprit Bumrah, and a few more players from India’s ODI World Cup team, Kohli is expected to make his comeback during the Test series. Senior Indian players Rohit, Kohli, and others have not played cricket since their team’s devastating World Cup final loss to Australia.

Both the white-ball assignments against South Africa and the T20I series between India and that country had been skipped by Virat. But he was available for the Test series right from the beginning.

The nature of the “family emergency” that sent Virat home four days before the Test series began is still unknown. However, given that Kohli has promised the BCCI that he would rejoin the squad prior to the start of the Test series, the situation doesn’t seem to be that serious.
