Supreme Court rejects a request to revoke the CBFC certification for the movie “Adipurush”

After its release, the movie “Adipurush,” starring Prabhas and Kriti Sanon, generated controversy. It received criticism for its conversations on social media. According to a report in ANI, the Supreme Court of India suspended the legal actions against the film’s creators that were pending before several high courts on Friday. The creators of “Adipurush” had also appealed the Allahabad High Court’s ruling requiring them to appear before it on July 27. The supreme court had also given notice about their appeal.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-91321″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-images-12-1.jpg” alt=”” width=”1502″ height=”841″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-images-12-1.jpg 300w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-images-12-1-150×84.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1502px) 100vw, 1502px” />

A “Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking to revoke the CBFC certificate of the film for public exhibition for allegedly hurting religious sentiments” was also denied, according to the news agency. The PIL was rejected by a court of Justices SK Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia.

Kaul commented, “Everyone is touchy about everything now…tolerance for movies and books are declining.”

Advocate Mamta Rani filed the PIL on behalf of the unrepresented and demanded that the film’s certificate be revoked for allegedly misrepresenting sacred texts. She also asserted that the portrayal of Hindu deities in “Adipurush” violated the legal requirements outlined in Section 5B of the Cinematograph Act, 1952. The petitioner’s attorney, Ratnesh Kumar Shukla, said that the movie deified the gods in an abhorrent way.

The petitioner’s arguments were not considered by the bench. Justice SK Kaul reportedly replied, “Why should we consider this under 32? The process to get a certificate is outlined in the cinematography legislation. Nowadays, everyone is sensitive to everything. They will appear before the Supreme Court each time for it. Do we have to examine everything? The degree of tolerance for movies, literature, and artwork continues declining. People are now wounded, sometimes really, sometimes not. But in accordance with Article 32, we won’t begin to consider them.
