In the first innings, Sharma bowled a brilliant stint, giving up only 38 runs in 10 overs while using her off-break to terrorize the Australian batting order.

Along the process, Deepti Sharma recorded the highest ODI numbers by an Indian woman against Australia and became the first Asian bowler to get a five-for against the Australia Women’s Team.

“Whenever I would get my chance to bowl, I was always prepared,” Deepti said after the innings. I try to strike the correct spots and play to my strengths. The surface was dry today, which benefited the spinners, so I bowled a little more slowly. I only needed to bowl in the appropriate spots. I think that collectively, we bowled very well. Although Fielding didn’t live up to expectations, we will recover.

After losing captain Alyssa Healy, Australia got off to a respectable start, with fifties from Phoebe Litchfield and talisman Ellyse Perry, before Deepti Sharma went on her quest for wickets.

Freshman Shreyanka Patil contributed to Deepti Sharma’s debut by dismissing danger lady Ellyse Perry just after she reached fifty thanks to an outstanding catch.

After that, the wickets continued falling, with Beth Mooney being the next to be removed for leg before wicket despite Australia’s third appeal to the umpire.

Next to go was Tahlia McGrath, whom Deepti thoroughly confounded and shook the stumps.

Georgia Wareham was the victim for her final wicket. Though Wareham attempted to flick the flighted ball from Deepti by going down the wicket, he instead chipped it straight to Smriti Mandhana at mid-wicket.

Annabel Sutherland finished her historic fifer by chipping a sluggish, tossed-up delivery back to Deepti, who made a superb grab in her follow-through.

Australia amassed 258 runs in 50 overs at the conclusion, creating a challenging goal for the Indian women to pursue.
