Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna: Over 3 Cr of Homes Built

A day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives over 19,000 residences built under the initiative to beneficiaries in Gujarat, authorities stated on Thursday that over three crore dwellings have been created so far under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (rural and urban).

They said that there is a lot of focus on timely completion and handover of such projects and that Modi has made it a point to participate in the “griha pravesh” of these homes for the underprivileged under the plan.

The prime minister was present at a ceremony to give over the keys to homes to four lakh beneficiaries during his visit to Rewa on National Panchayati Raj Day in April. He also attended a ceremony to hand over the keys to two lakh beneficiaries in Tripura in December.

He also participated through video conference at a function for the 4.51 lakh recipients of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna (rural) in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, in October of last year. The prime minister had dedicated 3,024 EWS apartments in Kalkaji in Delhi, which were constructed for slum residents' rehabilitation, in November.

He used video conferencing to attend a ceremony in Madhya Pradesh in March of last year for five lakh recipients. In October 2021, the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna (urban) recipients in 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh received their keys from the prime minister. The authorities listed many instances when Modi was present when the recipients were given the keys to their new homes.
