Watch: Jonny Bairstow’s Astonishment When Ravindra Jadeja Uses an Arm-Ball to Clean Him Up

Jonny Bairstow, the batter for England, was waiting patiently, hoping to settle in for the long run. While India’s spinners were in action halfway through the second session of Day 3 of the first Test in Hyderabad on Saturday, he had gotten off to a strong start, facing 21 deliveries without striking a boundary and scoring six runs.

Choosing to change tactics, Bairstow attempted a paddle sweep off Ravindra Jadeja. He was successful, and a misfield in the deep assisted him in reaching his maiden boundary.

Jadeja answered, pitching after Bairstow was beaten on the outside edge, with the one that turned away.

Everything is going OK so far.

Then, a cunning Jadeja took advantage of Bairstow’s frame of mind and bowled an arm-ball. Unaware that the ball would turn away again, Bairstow raised his arms in the hopes that it would.

No, it didn’t.

When the ball hit the bails, Bairstow’s face told the tale. He was stunned and in astonishment as he tried to comprehend how Jadeja had outwitted him.

After England’s top-order got off to a fast start earlier in the day, putting up 89 runs in only 15 overs in the morning session at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium for the loss of just one wicket, India struck again, with Jadeja taking his first wicket of the match.

In the opening hour of play, England dismissed India for 436 runs, thanks in large part to the efforts of Ben Duckett and Zak Crawly. India had a commanding advantage of 190 at the end.

Before being dismissed, the opening duo scored 45 in 9.1 overs.

After reaching 31, Crawley was the first to leave, and Duckett was the only player to fall short of a half-century by three runs.

Jasprit Bumrah, an India fast bowler, elegantly removed Duckett from the game before lbwing Joe Root on the second ball.

Nonetheless, Ollie Pope reached his fifty years of age.

After choosing to bat first, England was bowled out for 246 in 64.3 overs, with skipper Ben Stokes leading the way with 70 off 88.
